Kennedy Law Group of Tampa Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
September 8, 2009 – According to the Tampa Bay News Journal, The Kennedy Law Group, a law firm that is known for providing legal advice on a local Florida television station, is seeking protection from its creditors through the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Kennedy Law Group, known as A Advocates & Attorneys of Kennedy Law Group PA, has formally done business as A Professional Association of Trial Lawyers and A Personal Injury Law Firm.
They have filed for Chapter 11 reorganization with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court’s Middle District of Florida Friday, reporting asses of between $100,000 and $500,000 and liabilities of between $1 million and $10 million.
Thomas J. Kennedy is president of the firm, which is located at 5100 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. Kennedy appears on WFLA-Channel 8 weekday mornings to answer general legal questions from viewers, according to the firm’s Web site.
A Advocates & Attorneys owes $2.5 million to its top 12 creditors, according to court filings, with $1.5 million of that earmarked for advertising expenses.
The firm says it owes Idearc Media LLC, the official publisher of print telephone directors for Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), $1.1 million. Idearc filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Dallas in March.
A Advocates & Attorneys also owes Dex Yellow Pages of Maitland, a publisher owned by R.H. Donnelley Corp. that prints telephone directories for Embarq, nearly $182,000.
A Advocates & Attorneys also said it owes AT&T Yellow Pages $124,000, Wenstrom Communications of Clearwater $70,000 and Yellow Book of Dallas $44,500 in advertising fees.
The firm also owes on two lines of credit including one for just under $400,000 with Wachovia Bank and another for $132,000 with Bank of America.
Dallas Truck Accident Closes Interstate 635 Lanes
Thursday, July 23, 2009 – EMILY TSAO from The Dallas Morning News reports that All lanes on Interstate 635 near MacArthur Boulevard were opened today after an accident Wednesday shut down eastbound lanes for several hours.
A U-turn lane on the overpass, shut down since the accident, will remain closed until the bridge is repaired, she said.
As of this morning, bridge repairs have not been scheduled. But they will take place when crews will have the least impact on traffic, Releford said.
An Irving police officer inspected the bridge damage after a truck hauling a forklift on a flatbed trailer hit the last of a series of MacArthur Boulevard bridges crossing I-635 in Irving, damaging the bridge and shutting down traffic.

Truck Accident In Missouri Nearly Crushes Two Women
A bizzare truck accident accident nearly crushes two women on their way to pick up a friend and take her to the hospital.
The unusual accident occured on highway “D” near New Melle in St. Charles County. It is reported that the wheel of a flat bed truck slipped off the road. When the load on the truck shifted, grader came crashing down on top of the passenger car. The two women were seriouly hurt. One had to be airlifted to to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. Both the driver of the truck or the company owner would comment. The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating.

FELA Suit: Norfolk Southern Engineer Claims Injuries
Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0254
A Norfolk Southern Railway Company employee has filed suit against the railroad, alleging he was injured because of his work for the company.
Kenneth R. Ringe claims that during his career for the railroad, he injured his neck, back and upper and lower extremities because he was required to operate heavy machinery and to use impact tools.
He worked in the Maintenance of Way or Track Department from 1973 until 1994 and in the Transportation Department as a locomotive engineer from 1994 until now, according to the complaint filed March 13 in Madison County Circuit Court.
In addition to his injuries, Ringe suffered mental anguish, lost wages, incurred medical costs and experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.
He also claims his ability to work, labor and enjoy the normal pursuits of life has been impaired.
Named as co-defendants in the complaint are Consolidated Rail Corporation and American Premier Underwriters.
Ringe is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
